The JAFFRAY DRAMA CLUB for children will start again from October 17 to November 30.
We meet for two hours (3-5 p.m.) on Monday’s and Wednesday’s in the multi-purpose room. Time flies as we have so much fun together!
We will be creating our 11th original production, since 2014. Every show is based on the children’s ideas, dreams, opinions and intuitions!
We will perform our original Drama Play two times to parents, families, students and teachers of Jaffray Elementary School.
No experience necceary.

Summer Drama Camp is back in town!
Denise Bertrand, an international director, writer, and producer with over 40 years of experience is returning to Golden to lead the I AM INSPIRED drama camp! Denise is a seasoned director who supports children of all ages in expressing their ideas, opinions and intuitions. Her unique style of educating helps students to feel free in expressing their imaginative ideas and stories.
Her assistant will be Alexia Cote, an 18 year old former student who is a passionate young artist and piano teacher who is continuously inspired to bring more creative outlets to her community. In 2017, Alexia participated in this drama camp. This is what she says: “I AM INSPIRED not only made me to discover my artistic values but helped me with my confidence, self-worth, memory, patience, and teamwork capabilities—just to name a few. This year, I am so happy to be helping Teacher Denise bring some artistic fun and knowledge into our community. “
Join us for a transcending experience through the dramatic arts from August 2nd to 6th at the Golden Museum. Two camps will take place, and both shows will be performed on the final day.

Thanks to all of you who have made inquiries regarding where I will be bringing my Drama Club programs during the 2017/18 school calendar year. From January to August 2017, I directed, wrote and produced 6 theatre productions inspiring over 75 children to express their creativity through theatre! What fun we had!
I will be in Ontario spending quality time with my 92 year-old mother, so I will not be running Drama Club this Fall (2017) and Winter (2018).

2017 Success Stories
March Break - I am Inspired - Drama Camp: With the help of a friend, Natalie Bertrand (no relation) we managed to inspired parents to sign their children up for the camp. They were not disappointed! I travelled to Golden BC and created a week long drama camp for 12 children. After the show we celebrated with a pizza party! Many parents and kids asked me to come back in 2018. I hope to go back!
Jaffray Drama Club - Spring program. I decided to shorten the program by 2 weeks (instead of 8 weeks, we had only 6 weeks) to create a unique production. But I added on a half hour and was amazed at how focused the children could be for 2 hours of drama fun! We put on a great show called Little Fittle.
Ktunaxa Creation Legend was a very well received by over 200 audience members. It was the first time this 'story' was ever put into script. This was a whole school production with 40 children, 6 teachers, support staff and Elders giving their best to make it come alive. Mirror World - I was invited to be the guest Director and script writer at IDEAL Summer Arts and Music Camp. I revised a script I had written with other children in 1988! With the professional musical support of Gabriel and Sophia Hoffman the show had original songs that the children sang. A variety of ages and talent created a memorable evening for parents and guests. You can view this show on my video page.

KTUNAXA CREATION LEGEND - will be presented on April 26 - Private presentation by invitation only.
April 27 Public Presentation at 6:30 - doors open 6:00
At the Ktunaxa Nation Council Auditorium- 220 Cranbrook Street North
Admission to Show is a non-perishable food item. Each item will be donated to Operation Street Angel. (Operation Street Angel provides drop-in services to the homeless and at-risk individuals and families in the Cranbrook area. Services include mental health counselling and referrals, harm reduction, nurse practitioner health services, street outreach, hot nutritious meals, advocacy, and employment and justice services.)
This is a full school production wherein all the students from K2 to Grade 6 (40 children) will take part in the production. Teachers have contributed their talents as well with set design, costumes and masks.This production will tell the story of the origins of the Ktunaxa nation. This legend has been passed on by parents, grandparents and story teller's. For the first time, the AQAM students will be presenting the legend through theatre.

2016 Success stories
November 30 2016 - The JES Drama Club will be taking their latest production When Water Speaks on the road. We have been invited to perform our show at the 'A'q'amnik Elementary School for an audience of 50 children ages 4-12 plus teachers and guests. This performance follows two shows they gave at their school.
August 2016 - I am so happy to announce that I am a recipient of a BC Artist in the School Grant. I will be working at the ?A'q'amnik Elementary First Nations School starting in November 2016. As an artist in their school we will create the Ktunaxa Creation Legend.
June 2016 - Check out a documentary that was made about me and my work. Most of the filming was done in Ecuador while I was on a Transformational Leadership Adventure in June 2015.

A mixed aged Drama Club on Tuesday's and Thursday's at Jaffray School
3:15-4:45 p.m.
24 hours of professional drama training over 7 weeks.
An original script will be created based on the children's ideas and performed at the end of Program. (Check out past performances of other children's shows)

6 WEEK PROGRAM
With Denise Bertrand & Simon Hand from the PHUKET GAZETTE TV
For the Experienced Drama Club 9+
Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:40 – 5:10
Cost: 4500 baht
This fun filled 6 week workshop will introduce students to the world of live TV reporting. Students will be shown how to imagine, plan and then perform/report in front of a live TV (Phuket Gazette TV) a real news story. Guest TV presenter/artist Simon Hand will provide from time to time, hands-on techniques to enhance the students learning. This workshop will also challenge the students to work creatively in teams.
Skills that will be developed:
Organization of ideas
Vocal articulation and power of voice
Imagination
Team work
Creativity
Storytelling of “real events”
Confidence in presenting in front of others and a “live” TV reporting team

This is a great after school class if your child has an imaginations that just wants to keep expressing itself!
Through a variety of drama games, role-play, storytelling; costumes and creative movement kids will laugh, laugh and then laugh some more! An in-class sharing will be performed at the end of the workshop.
